What is Collagen?

The use of “collagen,” or fillers, is a popular skin rejuvenation treatment. It is safe and proven to produce impressive results. Its ability to provide reliable, safe improvement of facial wrinkles has led to fillers becoming one of the most widely used cosmetic treatments.

Before treatment, your physician will discuss the treatment and its expected results. Most treatments that are commonly referred to as “collagen” are actually composed of hyaluronic acids, a natural substance found in the dermis of the skin. You may experience a small amount of discomfort during the procedure, but the uneasiness is very short lasting. The area treated may swell a small amount after the procedure but it will fade over the following 24 hours. Collagen injections do not have painful side effects and there is no need for pain medication afterwards. You may resume your normal activities after the collagen treatment but you would be advised to stay out of the sun (of course, you have just left your dermatologist’s office). If you experience any unnecessary complications, make sure to report it immediately to your doctor.
