WARTS & MOLLUSCUM
Warts are benign growths of skin caused by contact with the wart virus. Treatment is difficult, with frequent failures and recurrences. Many warts, however, resolve spontaneously within a few years even without treatment.
Molluscum contagiosum are benign growths that are similar to warts but caused by a different virus that results in characteristic skin lesions consisting of single or, more often, multiple, rounded, dome-shaped, pink bumps. They contain a central plug, or core, which contains the virus. Once this core is removed, the bump will go away. However, this core is the infectious part of the molluscum, which can be easily spread by skin contact.
Often molluscum may become red or inflamed. This tends to occur just before the growth is ready to go away on its own. The molluscum virus is spread from the skin of one person who has these growths to the skin of another person. Molluscum will eventually go away on their own, however, this may take months to years.

WART AND MOLLUSCUM TREATMENT OPTIONS
The highly skilled and experienced dermatologists at Georgia Skin Cancer & Aesthetic Dermatology provide effective treatment and wart removal services.
Typically, warts and molluscum are frozen with liquid nitrogen or destroyed with a blistering solution. If there are many growths, multiple treatment sessions may be needed every three to four weeks until the growths are gone.
The number of treatments varies from person to person, depending on your immune system. The goal of treatment is not only to destroy the growths, but, more importantly, to get your body to recognize the virus and mount an immune response against it.
